Model “Disaster Artist”: Biopic about Vanilla Ice is coming – and there is already an actor for the rapper
After “Bohemian Rhapsody”, “Rocketman” and Co., biopics about famous musicians are very popular. With “To The Extreme” the life of rapper Vanilla Ice is now to be brought to the screen. Dave Franco will play the leading role.
The song “Ice Ice Baby” ran up and down the radio in 1990 and took the charts by storm. With exactly this song, the rapper Vanilla Ice became famous in one fell swoop and has remained so to this day – even if there were no other big hits. Vanilla Ice was the world’s most commercially successful rapper in the 90s. Now the musician gets a real monument:

Vanilla Ice, who is called Robert Van Winkle in real life, is mainly on reality TV today and takes on smaller roles in series and films, in recent years mainly guest appearances in Adam Sandler films. Most recently he was seen as himself in “The Wrong Missy” produced by Sandler.
“To The Extreme” is supposed to be like “The Disaster Artist”
Officially, “To The Extreme” will not only be about Robert Van Winkle’s quick success, but also about the time before and after. Van Winkle dropped out of school to sell cars in Dallas. He became an overnight star with his first single and then struggled with the side effects of success.
In an interview with Insider, Franco revealed that he had personally phoned Van Winkle. The contact helped him to familiarize himself with the role in detail. The actor’s goal is to create a film that is reminiscent of his project “The Disaster Artist”.
The biopic that he brought to the screen with his brother James Franco (“This is the end”) and which is about the filmmaker Tommy Wiseau and his legendary bad “The Room” delighted audiences and critics.
“Everyone thought we were doing a comedy where we’d make fun of Tommy Wiseau. But the more realistic we made it, the more cordial and funny it became. We want movie 4k hit that tone again, “said Franco about the film about Vanilla Ice, which – like Wiseau – is generally not considered to be the artistic spearhead of his field.
When “To The Extreme” will be in the cinemas is not yet certain. If you haven’t seen “The Disaster Artist”, you should definitely do so! You will find it at Amazon Prime Video *.
