Christopher Nolans Tenet now without a start date What does that mean for cinema fans

Christopher Nolan’s “Tenet” now without a start date: What does that mean for cinema fans?

“Tenet” has been postponed again – and this time for an indefinite period. This means that no new start date has been set for Christopher Nolan’s thriller. We explain how it could go on now.

“Tenet” has already been postponed several times, each time a new theatrical release date was announced. This is not the case with the latest postponement, the film is currently there without a start date. But we can reassure you: “Tenet” should definitely come to the cinema. The only question is when.

The film is currently available without a start date. But we can reassure you: “Tenet” should definitely come to the cinema.

Warner Bros. plans to announce a new start date for 2020 shortly – but it will probably not stay with ONE date. Because as Deadline reports, they are now preparing an “unconventional theatrical release” of Christopher Nolan’s new film. But what does that mean?

an “unconventional cinema release”

Europe and Asia before the USA?

So far, Warner Bros. has always been looking for a new date on which the film could be launched internationally on the same day. For films of this size, a simultaneous worldwide release is common, especially if it is a film with mysterious content and thus the possibility of spoiler – which is the case with “Tenet”, about whose exact plot is still not much known is.

But the corona pandemic is raging so unpredictably and unevenly through the world that it now seems almost impossible to catch a time when the cinemas of all major markets are open. The USA in particular has been an LOSMOVIES corona focal point for weeks, the movie theaters in the cinema capitals Los Angeles and New York will probably remain closed for a while.

So it is very possible that “Tenet” will start outside the USA for the time being, for example in China, Japan and Europe, where many cinemas have reopened. In the USA, the film would not be shown nationwide, but only in places where it is safe to go to the cinema – for example in drive-in theaters. The film would then be shown later in New York and Los Angeles than in less affected parts of the country.

So it is very possible that “Tenet” will start outside the USA for the time being, for example in China, Japan and Europe, where many cinemas have reopened.

German theatrical release: Probably not August 12th

Allegedly, Warner and especially Christopher Nolan are said to have initially rejected the option of a delayed theatrical release. But now that the talk is of the “unconventional release”, it can be assumed that this step will be taken after all – because no one can foresee how long one would have to wait until the cinemas worldwide are open at the same time. Even if the US cinemas open again at some point, the corona virus could rage more strongly in another country and force cinemas to close.

This is good news for German cinema fans: “Tenet” could soon be released in Europe, even if the Americans then have to wait longer for the film.

So that’s good news for German cinema fans:

So far, only the US launch date has been officially canceled, but we assume that the launches in the other countries will also be canceled and a completely new schedule will be worked out. Officially, the German “Tenet” start date for August 12, 2020 is still set, but we don’t believe that it will stay that way.

Officially, the German “Tenet” start date for August 12, 2020 is still set, but we don’t believe that it will stay that way.

Now it’s the turn of the other studios again: What is Disney doing with its “Mulan” on August 20, 2020, for example, if Warner doesn’t dare to try “Tenet”? We will keep you up to date.

Wonder Woman 1984 Thats how Steve Trevor will return

“Wonder Woman 1984”: That’s how Steve Trevor will return

Ever since it has been known that Chris Pine can be seen again as Steve Trevor at the side of Gal Gadot’s heroine in “Wonder Woman 1984”, fans have been wondering what is going on. Now there is the answer that has been suggested for a long time.

After it had already made the rounds before, two books now strongly suggest how “Wonder Woman 1984” brings back the dead Steve Trevor (Chris Pine). Probably because of a mistake, a “Wonder Woman 1984” novel aimed at a young audience and the children’s learning book “Wonder Woman 1984: Meet Wonder Woman (I Can Read Level 3)” have already appeared, although the film was postponed several times (originally yes, a cinema release scheduled for June 2020) is still a long time coming.

Thanks to these books, we now know, among other things, how Steve Trevor will return. Fans have been asking themselves this question since the announcement of the sequel to “Wonder Woman” and especially since the first trailer, in which the character who died in World War I suddenly appears in the 1980s and seems to have no idea what is going on.

Before the unveiling, however, two pointers: These are of course likely SPOILERS, so: Read on at your own risk! But also the important information that such books are mostly based on script versions and changes may still have been made. So details can differ.

These are of course likely SPOILERS, so read on at your own risk!

A dream stone as a key

A so-called dream stone (also known from some DC comics) is responsible for the return of Steve Trevor. This stone has the power of the gods, can fulfill one wish (but only one per person) – and ends up in the Smithsonian.

A so-called dream stone (also known from some DC comics) is responsible for the return of Steve Trevor.

Wonder Woman alias Diana Prince (Gal Gadot) works there together with her rather nerdy colleague Barbara Minerva (Kristen Wiig). Unaware of the power of the stone, Diana expresses her desire to get Steve back.

Unaware of the power of the stone, Diana expresses her desire to get Steve back.

Incidentally, the stone also gives Barbara Minerva powers (because she wishes to be like Wonder Woman), making the character the antagonist Cheetah used by the main villain Maxwell Lord (Pedro Pascal) – and Diana herself loses her powers more and more.

Prequel comics are coming

While the early publication of these books is probably a mistake due to the many postponements caused by the corona, a book that is directly related to the film is regularly on the market beforehand.

Recently the comic book “Wonder Woman 1984 No. 1 ”announced, which will be released as a prequel to the film in September. It contains two stories that are set just before the events in the film and are intended to show us how Wonder Woman set itself up in the 1980s.

Recently the comic book “Wonder Woman 1984 No. 1 ”announced, which will be released as a prequel to the film in September.

In the first story we already learn that Diana works at the Smithsonian. When there is a hostage situation there, Wonder Woman has to enter the scene. The events in the second story are probably a direct result of the fact that Wonder Woman has now shown herself again in public: someone is trying to steal her lasso of truth.

“Wonder Woman 1984” by director Patty Jenkins is now due to hit theaters on October 1, 2020, but this date can still be postponed. Distributor Warner has already announced as part of the recent postponement of “Conjuring 3” that it will keep an eye on the situation around the corona pandemic and the cinemas that are still largely closed in the USA and, if necessary, postpone further films.

Model Disaster Artist Biopic about Vanilla Ice is coming – and there is already an actor for the rapper

Model “Disaster Artist”: Biopic about Vanilla Ice is coming – and there is already an actor for the rapper

After “Bohemian Rhapsody”, “Rocketman” and Co., biopics about famous musicians are very popular. With “To The Extreme” the life of rapper Vanilla Ice is now to be brought to the screen. Dave Franco will play the leading role.

The song “Ice Ice Baby” ran up and down the radio in 1990 and took the charts by storm. With exactly this song, the rapper Vanilla Ice became famous in one fell swoop and has remained so to this day – even if there were no other big hits. Vanilla Ice was the world’s most commercially successful rapper in the 90s. Now the musician gets a real monument:

As Insider.com reports, “The Disaster Artist” star Dave Franco will be rapper Vanilla Ice in the biopic “To The Extreme”, based on a script by Chris Goodwin (“Major Lazer”) and Phillip Van (“Bright Falls”) , play. The film is about to go into preproduction.

As Insider.com reports, “The Disaster Artist” star Dave Franco will be rapper Vanilla Ice in the biopic “To The Extreme”, based on a script by Chris Goodwin (“Major Lazer”) and Phillip Van (“Bright Falls”) , play

Vanilla Ice, who is called Robert Van Winkle in real life, is mainly on reality TV today and takes on smaller roles in series and films, in recent years mainly guest appearances in Adam Sandler films. Most recently he was seen as himself in “The Wrong Missy” produced by Sandler.

“To The Extreme” is supposed to be like “The Disaster Artist”

Officially, “To The Extreme” will not only be about Robert Van Winkle’s quick success, but also about the time before and after. Van Winkle dropped out of school to sell cars in Dallas. He became an overnight star with his first single and then struggled with the side effects of success.

In an interview with Insider, Franco revealed that he had personally phoned Van Winkle. The contact helped him to familiarize himself with the role in detail. The actor’s goal is to create a film that is reminiscent of his project “The Disaster Artist”.

The biopic that he brought to the screen with his brother James Franco (“This is the end”) and which is about the filmmaker Tommy Wiseau and his legendary bad “The Room” delighted audiences and critics.

“Everyone thought we were doing a comedy where we’d make fun of Tommy Wiseau. But the more realistic we made it, the more cordial and funny it became. We want movie 4k hit that tone again, “said Franco about the film about Vanilla Ice, which – like Wiseau – is generally not considered to be the artistic spearhead of his field.

When “To The Extreme” will be in the cinemas is not yet certain. If you haven’t seen “The Disaster Artist”, you should definitely do so! You will find it at Amazon Prime Video *.

In the financial crisis of 2008, many banks ran out of money – and so did many strippers because the bankers in the nightclubs were stingy. In “Hustlers”, which is based on real events, a group of strippers starts drugging their customers and literally pulling their money out of their pockets.

Jennifer Lopez is a stunner

Even without Jennifer Lopez, “Hustlers” would be a movie worth watching. But the singer and actress, whose film career seemed to have peaked in cmovies mid-noughties, upgrades the gangster film considerably:

She plays a woman named Ramona, who, as the most experienced of the stripper gangsters, takes on a role somewhere between mentor, goddess and tough-calculating lone warrior. She is at the same time the sex object and the boss over all the guys in the room, the motherly leader and competitor of the younger colleagues.

In our 4-star review of “Hustlers” we go into more detail on the remarkable gangster film:

Emmys 2020: Netflix with mega-record, “The Mandalorian” makes history, “Watchmen” with the most nominations

“The Kissing Booth 2” on Netflix: Joey King explains why the bad reviews don’t matter

“The Kissing Booth 2” was at least slightly better received by critics than the first part. In the variety podcast The Big Ticket, leading actress Joey King has now explained why that doesn’t matter to her anyway.

It’s not as if the critics generally have a problem with Joey King (“Independence Day 2”), on the contrary: She was literally showered with critical praise for her performance in the series “The Act” last year – and in the end There were also nominations for the Emmy, the Golden Globe and the SAG Award from the American Actors’ Association.

But with “The Kissing Booth” things are different: The first part is currently only 17 percent positive reviews on RottenTomatoes (as of July 30, 2020). “The Kissing Booth 2” still has 25 percent positive reviews, but of course that is no reason to jump for joy either.

“The Kissing Booth 2” still has 25 percent positive reviews, but of course that is no reason to jump for joy either.

And yet: Netflix also shot “The Kissing Booth 3” before the sequel was released – and even released a trailer straight away:

In America there is the term “critic proof” – it refers to films in certain genres, such as big action blockbusters or brutal horror films, where it doesn’t really matter what the reviews are because people go to the cinema anyway. Whether this is true is controversial: You could somehow imagine that films like “Men In Black: International” would have had more viewers if they hadn’t been panned so unanimously.

Be that as it may, the adjective seems to apply to the “The Kissing Booth” franchise. And in a podcast interview with Variety, Joey King has now also explained how she sees the matter: “I understand that the critics did not celebrate the film. But that’s the thing – it’s not made for critics to say, ‘Wow, what a movie!’ People should watch it and just have a good time. “

I understand that the critics didn’t celebrate the film.

The best from both worlds

Whereby Joey King argues in a more differentiated way than some colleagues who claim that the critics’ opinion misses the point anyway:

“I’m grateful that I got to do ‘The Act,’ which the critics said, ‘Oh, that’s great.’ But not everything you 123 MOVIES has to attract critics’ praise. That doesn’t mean that it isn’t successful anyway. And it doesn’t mean that it isn’t one of my favorite projects anyway. The fan reactions are all criticism I need to fill my heart. “

But not everything you do has to attract critical acclaim.

“The Kissing Booth 2” has been available on Netflix since July 24, 2020. “The Kissing Booth 3” has been announced for a 2021 release.

Channing Tatum is supposed to copy the Netflix success model for Amazon

Channing Tatum is supposed to copy the Netflix success model for Amazon

In the cinema one seemed to be tired of young adult material, on Netflix they are sure to hit the public. Amazon Prime Video also wants to get involved – and that’s why Channing Tatum gets on board for a target group-oriented Shakespeare version.

As the Hollywood Reporter reports, Amazon has the plan to produce more so-called young adult content, that is, more material for the target group of “young adults”, usually between 15 and 18 years old.

Amazon has the plan to produce more so-called young adult content

The idea behind it is obvious. Netflix celebrates one hit after the other with films and series that are strongly aimed at such an audience – most recently with “The Kissing Booth 2” and “Cursed”, for example.

One of the first projects that Amazon is launching as part of this strategy sounds very interesting.

Shakespeare, Tatum …

A still nameless film is loosely based on William Shakespeare’s “Macbeth”, because the focus is on a Lady Macbeth-like teenage girl who is confronted with the consequences of her ambitions.

A still nameless film is loosely based on William Shakespeare’s “Macbeth”, because the focus is on a Lady Macbeth-like teenage girl who is confronted with the consequences of her ambitions

How and whether the balancing act will succeed in transforming the famous literary figure, who manipulates her husband into a murderer and warmonger, into an easier teenage story is exciting.

The project will be a musical. Superstar Channing Tatum, who will implement the film with his production company FMOVIES Amazon Prime Video, is responsible for this. He does this together with the successful music manager Scooter Braun, who represents Justin Bieber and Ariana Grande, among others.

… and the director of “Anna and the Apocalypse”

The creative minds for the actual implementation have already been determined: the screenplay is written by the so far unknown author S.J. who is on the rise with several projects. Inwards, who also works for competitor Netflix at the same time: With a series called “Cursed Pirate Girl” she is also adapting a young adult material for the streaming giant with the red N.

Meanwhile, Amazon’s “Macbeth” project is being directed by a filmmaker, John McPhail, who has already proven that he can stage unusual youthful material with a lot of music: his Christmas horror musical “Anna and the Apocalypse” is one of the most creative zombies -Films of the past years and not only inspired us:

The review of “Anna and the Apocalypse”

A schedule for the production of the new Amazon film is not yet known. But Amazon should be very keen to get production going quickly, because the chances of success for such materials are currently very high in the streaming area.

Nothing is known about the cast either. It has not yet been revealed whether the “Magic Mike” star Channing Tatum will also be seen in front of the camera in addition to his role as producer.

As an actor he has recently made himself a bit rare, has only been active as a speaker a few times since “Logan Lucky” and “Kingsman 2: The Golden Circle”, both of which came to German cinemas in September 2017, but not more to be seen in a new movie or series.

Netflix wants Nolan Tarantino and its own Star Wars

Netflix wants Nolan, Tarantino and its own “Star Wars”

For years, Netflix has been stirring up the classic Hollywood studio system and making successful films. But there is still a lot missing from the streaming service – like a large mega franchise of its own for the whole family like “Star Wars” or “Harry Potter”.

Since moving from Disney to Netflix, Tendo Nagenda has been Vice President for Original Films at the streaming service, responsible for the major film projects that are launched. The acclaimed hot Oscar candidate “Da 5 Bloods” and the much watched action film “The Old Guard” fall under his responsibility.

But even though Netflix is enjoying such great success in the field of its own film productions, the streamer still has dream projects that should exist in the future. Nagenda revealed this in an interview with the industry magazine Hollywood Reporter.

Netflix is looking for the mega franchise

They are looking for the big adventure film franchise for a wide audience, says Nagenda. As a comparison, he cites the first “Star Wars” film and the first two “Harry Potter” films and states: “Lots of family live action, fantasy, spectacle films that are big and are well received. A ‘Jumanji’ like story. That is the next frontier! “

You are looking for the big adventure film franchise for a wide audience

The streaming service is also looking for a new idea, i.e. does not want to broadcast an existing book series. As a comparison, “Star Wars”, invented by George Lucas, or the “Matrix” series by the Wachowski sisters is used again.

The streaming service is also looking for a new idea

It therefore needs filmmakers with innovative ideas and Netflix is ready to take the risk of implementing such a new idea.

Netflix wants exceptional directors

We would also like to have some names on Netflix that are already known for innovative ideas. When asked about his dream directors, whom he absolutely wanted for a Netflix movie, Nagenda replied: “I would love to get Jordan Peele to make a Netflix movie. We love Chris Nolan, we love Quentin Tarantino. “

“I would love to get Jordan Peele to make a Netflix movie. We love Chris Nolan, we love Quentin Tarantino. “

Getting the cinema advocate Nolan for a Netflix film seems as unrealistic as Tarantino, but at least one series for the streaming service is possible.

It also seems clear to Nagenda that Nolan and Tarantino will not make films for Netflix, who vexmovies an interview with the Hollywood Reporter also chooses an alternative approach to signing them: “We have to concentrate our efforts on finding people at this talent level that we can work with as early as possible and get them to make films just for Netflix. “

We need to focus our efforts on finding people at this talent level who we can work with as early as possible and get them to make films just for Netflix. “

So it remains to be seen what kind of big, new franchise Netflix will bring us in the near future and whether the streaming service will succeed in creating such a connecting event as “Harry Potter” or “Star Wars” that will keep fans busy for years or even decades, even without the cinema experience. to accomplish. And we are very curious to see whether the streaming service will really discover the “next Nolan” or the “next Tarantino”.

First of all, there will be many other films and series on Netflix in August. As always, there is an overview in our monthly overview news:

Like Arielle with calypso music Disney makes new real-life musical adaptation for Disney streaming service

Like “Arielle” with calypso music: Disney makes new real-life musical adaptation for Disney streaming service

Disney will film the musical “Once On This Island” for its in-house streaming service Disney. In contrast to “Hamilton”, the piece is not simply shown as a stage musical recording, but Xmovies8 completely reissued as a feature film.

The musical “Once On This Island” is not particularly well-known in Germany – but that wasn’t Lin-Manuel Miranda’s “Hamilton” a while ago either, but at least since its premiere on Disney, the musical highlight has also been known in Germany.

“Once On This Island” could now be similar, because as Entertainment Weekly reports, Disney will now film the musical directly for its streaming service. In contrast to Hamilton, the musical will be reissued as a feature film and not shown as a compilation of stage performances.

“Once On This Island” could now be similar, because as Entertainment Weekly reports, Disney will now film the musical directly for its streaming service.

That sounds like a promising project, because Disney has a knack for musicals and the story of “Once On This Island” sounds exciting – and well known …

That’s what “Once On This Island” is about

“Once On This Island” combines elements from Hans Christian Andersen’s “The Little Mermaid” and Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet”. The story takes place in the French Antilles in the Caribbean:

A country girl named Ti Moune falls in love with the aristocrat Daniel, but this romance doesn’t live up to the social norm. This incites the island’s gods into a wager: Agwé (god of water), Erzulie (goddess of love), Asaka (mother of the earth) and Papa Ge (demon of death) argue about whether love or death is stronger .

“Once On This Island” debuted on Broadway in 1990. The musical is also available in a German translation; the first performance took place in Vienna in 2006. Since then, the piece has been seen on German stages from time to time.

Wanuri Kahiu directs for Disney Plus

SlashFilm describes the musical as “The Little Mermaid” (already filmed by Disney as “Ariel, the Mermaid”) with a calypso flair (calypso is a Caribbean style of music).

The director is the Kenyan filmmaker Wanuri Kahiu, whose LGBTQ drama “Rafiki” was the first Kenyan film to premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in 2018 and was nominated for two awards, while it was initially banned in his home country due to its subject matter. However, after Kahiu complained, the Kenyan Supreme Court lifted the ban.

Jocelyn Bioh (“Matryoshka”) will write the script for the adaptation, with Marc Platt, a musical experienced filmmaker, on board as the producer. Platt already produced a. a. “La La Land”, “Into The Woods” and “Mary Poppins’ Returns”.

New on Disney in August 2020: Disney’s “Harry Potter” and the return of a children’s film icon

German Tenet cinema release well assured then advance sales should begin

German “Tenet” cinema release well assured: then advance sales should begin

After several postponements, Christopher Nolan’s new film “Tenet” is due to start in Germany in August 2020, before the USA. This is now underpinned by an appointment for ticket sales.

As the first big blockbuster after the cinema closings, Christopher Nolan’s “Tenet” is supposed to play a key global role in the revitalization of the cinema business during the Corona period. In the US, the most important cinema market, the sci-fi thriller will be shown in selected cinemas from the beginning of September.

But because Corona is somewhat under control outside of the USA, “Tenet” is actually being put on the big screen a little earlier in many other countries, in which the majority of movie theaters have reopened under certain conditions (without a parallel VoD alternative such as Disney in the case of “Mulan”).

Going to the cinema in times of Corona: “Interstellar” by Christopher Nolan gives hope

The fact that people are really serious in this country, although the film has previously been postponed several times, is now demonstrated by the setting of a date from which tickets for the film can already be bought:

Advance sales for “Tenet” tickets in Germany will begin on Wednesday, August 12th, 2020. The film will then be in cinemas exactly two weeks later, on Wednesday, August 26th.

Advance sales for GoStream tickets in Germany will begin on Wednesday, August 12, 2020.
The film will be in the cinemas exactly two weeks later, on Wednesday, August 26th.

“Tenet” preview at “Inception” re-performances

Even before “Tenet” flickers across the screen, Christopher Nolan’s ten-year-old masterpiece “Inception” will be shown again in selected cinemas from August 14th. The performances even go a bit beyond the mere film showing. In this context, among other things, material from “Tenet” that has not yet been shown will be shown.

This is of course special insofar as the exact plot of the film – as usual with Nolan – is still kept a big secret. All that is known so far is that the main character embodied by John David Washington (“BlacKkKlansman”) is diving into the world of international espionage in order to avert great disaster, in which time does not seem to follow the usual laws.
